McDonald's Grand Opening Celebration

Ronald McDonald makes an appearance at the Grand Opening. Alex & Nicholas Donze with Ronald McDonald.

Scott Innes from WYNK and is the voice of Scooby Doo and Shaggy too for the "New Scooby Doo Mysteries Series" was at the Grand Opening as well.

The Grand Opening included a Ribbon Cutting, Drawing for Prizes and special food prices during the day.
4th Annual
Great Basketball Reunion

The 4th Annual Great Basketball Reunion was held last Saturday at the Springfield American Legion Bldg. Everyone was invited who played, coached, or was a fan of basketball in this area during the 1940's. 50's, and 60's.
Pictured above: Johnny Robinson, Jimmy Taylor, Bobby Olah and Gus Kinchen. Johnny, Jimmy and Gus all played basketball in high school, but also made big names for themselves in LSU and pro football. Bobby played high school basketball at Albany, and after college had an outstanding career as a college basketball referee. He was recently named a Louisiana Sports Legend.

This year, we honored Sam King, recently retired as sports editor of the Morning Advocate, on his 53-year career in sportswriting. Pictured above: Linda Kay King, Susan King Gremillion, Terry King, Sam King, Sharon King

Coach Paul Dietzel, coach of the LSU National Championship Football Tigers of 1958.

C.B. and Onzell Wheat. C.B. Wheat was the coach of Live Oak's State Championship Team of 1956.

Cub and Carol Covington. Cub played on the Live Oak High School State Championship team of 1956 with Sam King, Jimmy King, David Jones, Myrl Brooks and James Addison.

Doris King, Jimmy King, Jeannine May. Jimmy played on the LOHS State Championship Team of 1956.

Wanda Robinson, Gayle Hatch, Peggy Hatch. Gayle played basketball at Catholic High in the 1950's, and is now a Hall of Fame strength coach who works with LSU, Olympic and other athletes.

Warren May and Lanelle Dugas, a member of Live Oak HS Class of '56 and wife of Tony Dugas, who played for the Denham Springs basketball team in the 1950's.
LPPS Family Resource Center
GRAND OPENING

Imagine a place in our school district where families could gather the skills needed to help their children achieve.

The LPPS Family Resource Center will be housed at the Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center in Walker, room 165. (9261 Florida Blvd., Walker, LA 70785)
The goal of the center is to provide resources that will assist, guide, and support families with their children's education. (Pre-school - 12th grade)

The center will offer a variety of educational materials fo loan, special needs information, ACT prep materials, workshops, and much more! "Families are a child's first and most important teachers"



Two Accepted For District IV Honor Choir

Mary Bernard and Mickie Hagan from the Livingston Parish Children's Choirs Chorale auditioned for district choir and both were accepted and invited to participate. Mary was first chair in the Alto I section, and Mickie was second chair in the Alto II section. The conductor was Dr. Meg Frazier who is the Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music at Loyola University in New Orleans. Because both girls had high scores on their auditions for this choir, they are eligible to participate in the 2nd round All State Auditions in October.
