JADD Members Attend G.O.T. Training

Teenagers from across the state came together for the "Get Out There" (G.O.T.) Training last week in Eunice at the Acadian Baptist Center. The training is designed to give youth the power to speak up and change lives in their schools and communities.

JADD members from Denham Springs High School work together in a small group to work on their Action Plan to bring back to DSHS.

Denham Springs High School JADD Club members Gabe, Kaylie, Sarah, Amy, and Blake present their plan to the group. This year's plan is to get the legal age of entering a bar in Livingston Parish  from 18 to 21.  At present, the law reads that an 18 year old may enter a bar but cannot drink. This group believes that plenty of under age drinking occurs inside the establishments that allow minors to enter. They want to stop that from happening!

To Share Your Stories, Pictures, Etc. With The Community.

Walker High School head coach W.E. "Buck" Hellen retired from Walker High and moved to Franklin to coach at Bowling Green School in 1980 where he turned their football teams into consistent winners. His 1983 team won the state championship, the school's first. The BGS stadium was dedicated in his honor on October 24, 2008. Former Livingston Parish Superintendent Randy Pope was on hand for the ceremonies. He coached with Coach Hellen at Walker High.

A monument was unveiled at an afternoon ceremony before that night's game. The pressbox that now bears his name was unveiled in evening ceremonies before the game.
