Amite Christian School
5th Grade Field Trip To Johnson Space Center, Houston, Tx.

Amite Christian School 5th grade classmates enjoyed an overnight field trip to Houston, Tx.
to visit the Johnston Space Center. The first stop was to tour the Neutral Buoyancy Lab
where astronauts train for spacewalks in a pool containing 6.5 million gallons of water
and mockups of the Space Shuttle and Space Station.

The next stop was to the actual Space Center where they were able to get close to real rockets. Below is a picture of the Saturn V rocket used during the Apollo Missions.

A real Astronaut, Brian Duffy, gave a talk about his experiences
during actual Space Shuttle Missions. He has logged a total of 40 days, 17 hours, 34 minutes and 59 seconds in space through participation in four flights: STS-45 Atlantis (1992), STS-57 Endeavor (1993), STS-72 Endeavor (1996) and STS-92 Discovery (2000).

This is a picture of the group making their own rockets.

There was a special "Apollo 13" exhibit at the Space Center that contained the CO2 canister (Above)as well as the Launch Director's Log (Below). Really Cool!
